Stone Reflections - Concrete as Art
Call it “abstract expressionism” but the process is totally engaging, energizing and very tactile. My concrete stone reflections are created using my minds eye for the design and my experience in the use of colour theory for this unique one-of-a-kind contemporary art form.
The creative process starts with only a design, colour palette and motion. It’s all about expressing a feeling, executing a design, the artistic balances of shapes and colours using “artistic principals”. The tools are colour, rhythms, line, balance, movement, variety, and simplicity. The process is not cerebral, at least not the left side of the brain. It is an intuitive process – paint, observe, critique... paint, observe, critique - until completion.
When I first discovered the intuitive creative versatility of concrete, I committed time and energy to discover how to innovate new forms of expression. Working in a number of different concrete applications including; sculptures, paintings and tabletops. The tabletops are created to lead the viewer subtly into it's twin painting, both abstract and landscape oil paintings.
The Stone Reflection in Concrete Series includes concrete and oil paintings and tabletops. My concept is all about presenting you, the viewer, with a "palette of colours and textures" that create a three dimensional experience leading the you into the painting and back to the table.
